A healthy attitude toward inter– club competition has been developed on the athletic fields and ha resulted in a pirit of good will between the various organization . Action cook place Ia t spring on the oftball diamond of Mer ereau Park, the area football fields during the fall and the local ba ketball courts thi winter. A record number of tudent participated in t hcse ports. There was al o, thi winter, a girl ' basketball team. Fencing wa added to the li t of extra-cur– ricular sport activity this pring. Intramural port were in titutcd at what was then Triple Cities College in the fall of 1947 by director of athletic Gene \Xf clborn. Each year, in- 105 intramural sports tere t m the variou port ha increa ed until now each one impatiently awaited. The program is especially important at Harpur ince inter-collegiate athletics, with the exception of basketball, i nece - aril y limited. In football, Adelphi and Saien battled it out for top honor . Saien led for mo t of the sea on, but were defeated by Adelphi and finished the season m a ccond place tic with the Goliards. Action was thick and fast and sometimes bewild– ering at Mersereau Park. Occa ionally, the ball car– rier cored unnoticed as orne games were finished in emi-darkne s. ln intramural oftball the Adelphi no cd out the Married Vets by a score of II- 8 in the playoffs. Adelphi beat off the Goliard toward the end of the basketball chedule but lost to Baccacia, the intramural ba ketball champion hip of the 1950-5 1 sea on.
