However, the grea~es( individual triumph for debating at Colgate came on April 13 when the Maroon team of Atkinson and Perlee which had represented olgate in all of its Eastern Intercollegiate League debates, defeated Bowdoin to win the league championship. Thi was the second succe sive crown for Colgate in the League whose title it had won by virtue of Ia ( vear's undefeated season. nly one los, that to Massachu etts lnstitute of Technology, marred the r cord of the Garlandmen who e consistent ability in rna tering the Oregon tyle of debate won them fam throughout the East. With Atkinson giving the constructive arguments and _Perlee tearing down the opponent's case via cross-examination, the .Maroon orators di cu sed the Ludlow Amendment, "pump-priming" and socialized medicine with notable success. The windup to the season came at the New York tate Debater's onvention held on April28 and 29. A large delegation led by Iifton \v hite, heldon Guile and \\'alter Carpen– ter travelled to ornell University to talk on topics of the public health, education and taxa– tion of New York tate. The Maroon had held important. post. in the onvention for thr e of the last six years and c n equentl the opini ns of the Colgate repre entative were held in high regard. For two day committee meetings, reports and debates on the floor of th s cmbly occupied the attention of the delegates although time was taken out Friday evening long enough for a banquet. and a dance. Frequenily throughout the sea on, group of debater joined men from the Public Di - cussion class in pre enting topics of current. intere (.to people living in and around Hamilton. Audiences in Cazenovia, Manlius, and Sidney, resp nded favorably to these pre nt.ations b the Colgate debaters.
