Grappl~, Grunt and Groan Back Row: Rasi, Roehrs, Ratcliffe. Wright, Gibbs, Gtllson (Coach), Richardson (Mana~tcr) Front Row . East, Schenk, Sanders, Blair. Some of the best competition in the east was afforded Colgate's 1939 wrestling team, and against this opp iLion the Maroon performed creditably. Led by Captain "Pinky" Jaeger, the grunt and groaners won two of five meets, all but one of which were on£ reign mats. Jaeger won all his bouts. Triumphs over Alfred and Buffalo were intermingled with defeats at the hand of S,vra– cuse, Williams, and St. Lawrence. Th latter two colleges consider wrestling a major sport and the inexperienced Maroon ma(men of whom there were five fre hmen, wresiled well against them. Jaeger, Wright, and Rat– cliffe turned in fine performances throughout. the season and the prospects for the future appear bright.
