Dressed in togas, members of the Juntor Classical league discuss future activities. Junior Classical League Concludes First Year 166 The Junior Classical League, which con– cluded its first active year, is made up of inter– ested students in the four advanced latin classes at East. It is one of almost 2,000 chapters of the national organization. Meet– tings, as required, are held during the class periods, with additional meetings at night. Members of the club have the national JCL pin, the national Latin paper and membership cards. The purpose of the JCL is to encourage among young people, on interest in and on appreciation of, the civilization, language, literature and art of ancient Greece and Rome; and to give them some understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity. The state convention, which was held this year at the new Wheatridge high school, and the notional convention which was held at Albuquerque, New Mexico, ore two of the club's yearly activities.
