East offers many other courses to satisfy college entrance requirements, but tlie language program seems to hove been estob- 1 ished especio lly for the college-bound stu– dent. Five languages German, Russ ian, French, Latin and Spanish- ore offered, and most students elect to toke at least two years of a language. However, some students con– tinue with a language for three years or some– times begin another. Probably the most important result of taking a foreign language is the understand– ing and knowledge of other peoples and their customs that ore acquired . This understand– ing, which is becoming more and more im– portant, is gained by actual participation in foreign games, eating foreign food and ob– serving other holidays and festivals . This year Mrs. Arnold's French VIII class hod a dinner and prepared many of the foreign foods themselves.
