58 Spotlight Provides News for Students at East Through the Spotlight, the student body of East receives information about school hap– penings and outside activities. All school gath– erings, social events and interesting news are reported in the four page edition of the Spot– light, which is sold every ather Thursday. New staff members are chosen twice a yeqr on the basis of skill in journalistic writing and reporting . Mr. Robert Rothstein, the sponsor of the Spotlight, helps staff members develop new ideas and techniques. The staff devotes much time and effort to the paper, but their work has not been in vain. In the past years the Spotlight has been awarded highest honors by the Columbia Scho– lastic Press association and the National Scholastic Press association. These two otgan– izations analyze different aspects of the paper, such as copy and content. The Bud Ernest Award is presented at the end of the year to the senior staff member who has contributed most to the paper.
