Looking down through the decora– tions, one sees couples dancing at the Junior Prom. Dances Provide Long Remembered Evenings 80 High school dances are an important and long remembered part of a student's experi– ences. A date with a new acquaintance or an evening with a "steady" makes the dances popular and anticipated events. Preparations for the dances begin several weeks before the actual event with the selec– tion of committees for theme, bid, band, deco– rations, royalty and courtesy. These groups perform their appropriate tasks; the culmina- tion of their efforts comes the night of the dance when the couples arrive to find the decorations in place, the lights dimmed, and the band playing. The evening proceeds with dancing, talking, and the pleasure of being together. The highlight of the evening is the coronation of a queen, followed by a dance led by the new royalty. Many couples conclude the evening by stopping at one of the nearby restaurants.
