Double Play Coach and Team join Forces "Take me out to the ball park, take me out to the crowd,'' rang through the halls of SPHS when the baseball season flew in. With a tough season ahead, the baseball team increased its intensity on the baseball triangle. Coach Mark Maloney returned for his second season with the team, and his only interest was that his team was successful and proved to be part of the SPHS "hell fire." Jim O'Leary, senior starter pitcher stated, "Coach Maloney ran thousands of drills, listened to all of us gripe, and he knew all along that it would pay off. I can honestly say that it did." He continued, "We are more matured now as a team, and we are now playing as a team." After many hours of tiring drills in the hot sun, Jason Wade commented, 108 • Sports/Baseball "We are really improving. We have executed better defense techniques and are willing to use what we have learned." As the season came to an end, the SPHS Green Devil baseball team rolled in from a tough season proudly. With great pitching, sharp hitting, deep defense, and a dedicated team and coach, there was no room for negative thoughts. - Cara Capucci
