St. Petersburg High School 1991 Yearbook (St. Petersburg, FL) - Full Access
As time continues and as we constantly evolve, we experience moments of suffering and loss amid our times of joy. The struggle in life to be better people and to create new looks is not without pain. We experienced this trauma with the death of George C. Icke. Mr. Icke touched our lives as one of those rare individuals who took the time to appreciate life's little wonders from the "coo" of a newborn child to the tears of joy streaming down one of the players' faces. Not only did he value these moments but he made us aware of their significance, as well. Mr. Icke helped to guide us through our sometimes painful transition into adults . With a warm smile and an insightful anecdote, he could help us understand the trials we had to overcome. However, Mr. lcke was unable to provide us with support when we needed it most: at his death. Without Mr. lcke as a mentor, we had to turn to each other and reach out as he taught us to do. Our football team dedicated their season to their former coach, and our graduating seniors began a memorial fund by exchanging dollars for diplomas with Mr. Grey. We, as the class of 1991, recognized Mr. lcke's strength of character, agonized over our loss, and we dedicated our yearbook to this wise and wonderful man. - Kira Scherer "Dedicated to you, Mr. lcke," are the screams of the varsity football players as they prepare for their first game.
