Sophomore Stephanie Beck remarked, "Forensics is not just an interest club, it is ·a group of motivated arid self-confident students who enjoy speaking to peers and advisers." The Forensics club traveled around ·the county participating in various speech contests. Many students qualified for"state comp13titions. Above: Marcy Shaw (pres.), William Packer (sgt. at arms). Shannon Gibson, Toinette Trojanowski, Yvette Fogarty. The various competitions included extemporaneous speaking, original oratory, and debate . The most common was extemporaneous speaking and the Lincoln Douglas Debate. Stephanie Beck explained, "When participating in extemporaneous speaking you have 30 minutes to prepare a seven minute speech and then read it to a judge. In the Lincoln Douglas Debate, you are given a theme a few weeks in advance. When ygu arrive, tq~y tell you which side you are to defend." Participating In competition helped many members. Grace Kim remarked, "Forensics has given me the ability to speak in front of people with added self– confidence. It has also given me the spirit for competition." It was the spirit of competition and other life long skills that were sharpened with Forensic activity. " Forensics gives its members a great deal of Interpersonal §kill.
