How do you feel you can contrib– ute to NHS? •••••••••• "I feel I can con– tribute to NHS by devoting my time and service to whatever needs to be done, whether it be at my school or in the community." - Patty White "I can contribute to my school and community by keeping up my grades and tutoring others so they can keep up their grades." - Mary Cappelli National Honor Society Recognizes Academi xcellence As the school sat, privilege ecoming a National Honor Society member, the old NHS members filed down the stairs from the balcony into the new theatre. "I was really excited to be tapped into NHS!" exclaimed junior Mary Cappelli. the ceremony and made It easier to recognize an honor and privilege was to be a member. "This ceremony is a special'one and being the theatre emphasizes its importance," commented senior Gavin Harris. Not only were these students tapped and recognized by the student body, but the induction ceremony was held at First Presbyterian Church. "One of the reasons it is such an honor to be a member is because the school makes such a big deal out of it and emphasizes its importance, especially the initiation dinner," remarked Patty White. NHS members participated in candy sales, volunteered at elementary schools, participated in the MDA Telethon, and in the holiday food drive. "Each of us had the opportunity to volunteer at different elementary schools to help the younger kids," replied 218 • Organizations/National Honor Society senior Laura Klein. Many clubs in the school acknowledged activities, but NHS is the dub that acknowledged those students who excel in their academic studies. "I think it is good to have clubs that are concerned with academiC as well as having service clubs. It's an Incentive for us to try hard in school," commented senior Jim O'Leary. Not only were these students acknowledged for their academic ·achievements, but NHS
