Not only did the facade of SPHS change as we progressed through high school but the face of our community transformed as well. DovJn every street vJe turned, we came across road blocks and grand opening ceremonies. The Bay Plaza corporation led the way to redevelopment in St. Petersburg. The company began the long awaited renovation of the waterfront Vinoy Hotel and the renewal of St. Petersburg's downtown business sector. We rejoiced in these changes as they created jobs and aesthetic beauties . To supplement our spending, we peddled fudge samples at the Pier and photographed Santa and his visitors at Christmas in the Park. Work wasn't all St. Petersburg's "new look" had to offer. We slam– danced at Jannus Landing and "mellowed" at Straub Park Jazz Festivals. The Suncoast Dome and Bayfront's Mahaffey Theater provided programs for all of our tastes, as well. We meshed with our community, and as it evolved through its many stages so did we . - Kira Scherer Waterfront view. The Vinoy Hotel begins renovation. Skeleton of change. Bay Plaza adds Spanish sense of style to the downtown area. "Domed delight!" The Suncoast Dome provides fun for everyone from festivals to concerts alike. Community Division • 251
