Kyle Oliver - 1986 Mark Huntington Pruitt Memorial Scholarship Past Recipients the first recipient of the Pruitt Scholarship, is a finance major at the University of Florida. He is active in his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and plays intramural sports. A Dean's List student, Kyle v.'i/1 graduate in May 1991. He plans to work in a financial institution before beginning work on his M.B.A. Sandal Shamas - 1987 the second recipient of the Pruitt Scholarship attenoed New York University for three years before accepting a position as a featured perfof'171er at Disney World In Tokyo. In January 1991 Sandal will retum to the Tish School of the Arts at New York University to finish her bachelor degree. Elizabeth Dirga - 1988 the third Pruitt Scholarship recipient is currently a Junior at Duke University. She is taking course work for a double major in Psychology and Anthropology. In the spring of 1991 she will be studying at the University of New South Wales in Sidney Australia. She plans to continue her education and obtain a Phd. and work with marine mammals. Sarah Kiney - 1989 the fourth Pruitt scholarship recipient is a sophomore at 'llilliam Jennings Bryant college. She is a vocal music major. This past summer she toured Europe with her college choir as a featured soloist. Sarah plans to be a professional singer. Craig A. Ross- 1990 is the fifth and most recent Pruitt scholarship recipient. Craig is now attending Davidson College. He has pledged Kappa Si-;;ma fraternity, is involved in the Big Brothers Program, and is playing intramural basketball. Craig is the SPHS 1990 graduating class Salutatorian and the George /eke Award winner. Elizabeth Dirga Sarah Kiney Craig Ross This scholarship was created to honor Mark Huntington Pruitt in the hope that the influence he had upon those who knew him can continue to be felt by future generations. Mark graduated from SPHS in 1978. Mark was an outstanding student and is remembered as clever, creative, energetic, and enthusiastic about everything he pursued. Admired and respected by his peers and teachers alike, Mark held numerous leadership positions both at SPHS and in the community. He was president of the Interact Club and a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation from Emory University, Mark attended the University of Florida Law College. Mark had was killed tragically in an airplane accident September 29, 1985. This scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating SPHS senior who is driven by those same high principles that governed Mark's life each day and who has an identifiable need. Community • 327
