4 • Opening/Spirit Place Changed, ·but ... The student body saw the completion of the first of several "face lifts" on the 80 year old institution they called school. Even pep assemblies, the bastion of fun at SPHS, gained new looks and different attitudes. ''There were several reasons we moved the pep assemblies to the gym," stated Activities Director, Mr. Herb Anderson. "For one thing, it smiling and excited, and I felt so much more a part of the school.'' We had close quarters, though. When one person jumped up to yell, everyone needed to jump up or the students would come tumbling down the bleachers. "I feel like a sardine in that gym - we are so close together!" exclaimed sophomore Tara McMurray. "By the pirit Remains cut too much time from the assembly to march all the kids out to the field. The assemblies are for the kids to enjoy.'' ''The hardest part about performing at the assembly was looking up and seeing the entire school staring at you,'' said J .V. cheerleader Christine Bowser. "Then I saw people Above:Ready,set,dance. The Devilettes are poised to begin their energetic routine, always a big hit with the student body. second pep assembly, everyone just sat there!
