As we evolve into the people we will become, we sense that changes need to be made. Hair styles are modified, and we alter our fashions to make statements about who we are. We develop emotionally on our journey, as we mold ourselves after our friends, and our families. We follow our dreams and pledge to let nothing stand in our way . Our beloved institution moves forward with us . Each building gets special attention in the renovation plan. The focus of construction is to revitalize, and to recapture the classic beauty that has always been our trademark. New Look in New Theatre, but Still a ... In 1926, St. Petersburg High School welcomed 200 students through its beautiful arches, and as the years went by, enrollment increased. In late 1979, some school board personnel thought that our beloved building needed to be torn down. In light of the brand new school buildings being constructed in the north county, it seemed like a good idea. Community Thirteen years, and over fifteen million dollars later, we opened for our traditional Open House. "I enjoyed having Open House so early in the year,'' commented Mrs. Aixa Ruch, a teacher who spoke with many parents that night. She continued, ''The teachers are upbeat and they are still fresh from the summer, not overloaded with papers and work." they were headed, much like the freshmen on their first day. Students were posted around the campus to lend a helping hand. "I enjoyed helping the parents. Many seemed very excited about seeing St. Pete High for the first time," said Jeni Shepardson, a senior member of NHS. Although construction plans most certainly hindered our daily living, we anxiously awaited ceilings that didn't leak, windows that actually opened, and walls without holes in them. The festivities began promptly at 7:00pm as the band entertained the group. "It was great to see so many parents involved in their children's education, ' ' stated Mr. Murray Mintz, the Drama director at SPHS. As the parents began to attend class, many found that they had no idea where helped at least 50 parents. "The entire evening was very well organized. Students, parents, and teachers were very pleasant, informative , and helpful, " stated Mr. William Grey, the principal, who was looking for an even better turn-out next year. - Cara Capucci

4 • Opening/Spirit Place Changed, ·but ... The student body saw the completion of the first of several "face lifts" on the 80 year old institution they called school. Even pep assemblies, the bastion of fun at SPHS, gained new looks and different attitudes. ''There were several reasons we moved the pep assemblies to the gym," stated Activities Director, Mr. Herb Anderson. "For one thing, it smiling and excited, and I felt so much more a part of the school.'' We had close quarters, though. When one person jumped up to yell, everyone needed to jump up or the students would come tumbling down the bleachers. "I feel like a sardine in that gym - we are so close together!" exclaimed sophomore Tara McMurray. "By the pirit Remains cut too much time from the assembly to march all the kids out to the field. The assemblies are for the kids to enjoy.'' ''The hardest part about performing at the assembly was looking up and seeing the entire school staring at you,'' said J .V. cheerleader Christine Bowser.
