influence~ by many to be the real inventor of the telegraph. Mr. Mor e, an itenerant painter, announced hi invention oon after vi iting Mr. Inger oil. Dr. PeJVberton, a Co– lumbu~ druggi t, originated the formula for Coca-Cola in hi home on Hamilton RoaJ. In 1916, the Coca-Cola bottle wa de igned to re emble the hobble kirt. Education wa an important influence. Columbus had the fir t public chool y tern e tabli hed by a muni– cipality in the outh. It wa begun in 1867. Columbus i the home of the olde t operating elementary chool in the tate. Today the city boa t 49 grammar schools, 4 junior high chool , 4 high school , and a junior college. Along with the influence of commerce and educa– tion, anoth r influence oon appeared. The t. Luke Meth– odi t hurch and the Fir t Bapti t Church were founded in 1829. Confederate Memorial Day ervice were held here on Augu t 26, 1866, in the t. Luke Church. Commerce, religion and the need for education are influence upon the city, but at the arne time, the tudent of our chool are a definite influence upon the city' religion, commerce and education.
