Interest Vikings Te ting their skills in four timed rallies, Whitman car enthu ia t u ed the opportunities to practice and exhibit their driving talent . Each driver and his navigator followed a predetermined sixty-mile cour e. Penalties were given for conte tants not ob erving legal speed limits and neglecting to practice afe driving rules. The number of participating car grew from sixteen in the first rally in mid-November to thirty in March's raUy. Winner , including art teacher Mr. Thomas Kozar in the fall rally, received fifteen-inch trophies. Films of famous races such as the Indianapolis 500 were examined by the Car Club members. Wandering Vikings- tho e without pa es--were apprehended and rerouted by the mu de-bound senior boys. Since trays left on cafeteria table by carele tudent have been a problem since Whitman opened, the Citizen hip Committee wa delegated the re– spon ibility oi reminding tudent to return their tray . For mo t Whitman tudent , a fire alarm meant a rna exodu from the building and a welcome break from cia e . But to the members of the afety Committee, it was a call to their a~ ianed position to earch for fire. Each boy also had experience a a volunteer at a local fire department. hamlian, T. Matzkin, C.
