Office Assistants Operate Switchboard Switchboard operator Amy Gudelsky receives a caJI for Dr. Shaw. Notices of forgotten lunches, important pbone calls, and unexcused absences were delivered to Whitmanites by tbe student assistants in the main office. Each period four girls aided the office staff. While one a sistant received calls at the switchboard, another answered the questions of stu· dents and visitors. Every morning the girls sorted the faculty mail and distributed the absence lists and daily bulletins. "You lost what,?" asks Mrs. Mel Burgess, as Phyllis Harah checks the losl·and·found drawer in the main office. 241
