and Football Games My Fair Lady and Bach's Fugue l1 la Gigue were included in the wide range of pieces played by Walt Whitman's Sym– phony Orchestra in assemblies and evening concerts. Small groups of players from the orchestra visited the Christ Child School where they entertained and instructed the children with their playing. In the spring, the orchestra sold chocolate bars to raise money for band uniforms, and in June they played at the graduation ceremony. Precision marching in regimental formations entertained spectators during half-time at home football games. Made up of the most talented mu icians of the concert and varsity bands, the marching band drilled endles ly to perfect each routine. The band al o performed at a Totem Pole dedica– tion at Cabin John Regional Park and in the Apple Blo om Festival. As outstanding members of Whitman's Advanced Chorus, the Madrigals were selected to perform as a small a cappella group. Meeting after school, the singers perfected familiar and unusual songs to present at seasonal musical assemblies. Featured at an open house at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, the Madrigals sang traditional Christmas carols. During the Christmas season they also caroled at the Ellipse near the 100-foot Christmas tree. . (~ J , ,. MADRIGALS Front Row: B. Rath, R. Lafsky, L. Hom, D. Craig, C. Stull, S. Smithey, B.
