Out of the Thicket Comes Wilson Pickett "Bos with the hot sauce," Barry Richard , emcee for the show, sells tickets during a lunch period. "Whip it! Kick it! Wicked PickeLL!" Living up to the Wa hington area reputation as the "soul capital of the Ea t Coa t," Whitman played host to Wilson Pickett and the Marvelettes in a oul concert in April. The fir t annual SGA- pon ored pring concert brought Wil on Pickett "Out of the thicket" and imported the Marvelette traight from Motown for two how , 7:30 and 10:00 p.m. SGA committees energetically tackled the problem of park– ina two full lots of cars, arranging for police protection, and publicizina the concert to a potential audience of six thou- and. Wil on Pickett and hi own eiaht-piece band followed the Marvelette and the Prophets band, pre enting perform– ance that finally paid for Whitman's football stadium.
