JV Cross Country Show Promise For '6 7 Breaking away from the group of runners, Roger Ca1vert takes the lead to begin the 2.6 mile lap for the J.V. CrOS$·Country team. Complementing the Varsity perfectly, Walt Whibnan's Junior Var ity Cro s-Country team had an out tanding sea– son, finishing first in the County and fourth in the State. Leading the assault were a quintet of fine runner : Rick Carten, Chris Arey, Dick Anson, Roger Calvert, and Bob Page. After having swept five out of seven meets, Whitman entered the County tournament as the favorite. The team proved the experts correct by soundly beating all other com– petition to gain Whitman' fir t Ju'nior Varsity County title. Rick Carten fini bed eventh and Chris Arey eighth to lead the barriers. In the State meet, bad health cost the Junior Vikings a shot at the crown, but they finished a strong fourth.
