Ostrom, C. Zim, T. Junkin, P. Furnas. Second Row: C. Ford, C. When the final buzzer during the first Junior Varsiry basketball game of the season, the score stood 60-62, Whit· man over Blair. Although the N outrehounded Einstein, they lost to the faster Titans 50-46. With 3 :59 left in the third quarter, the Vikings broke into a lead over Pooles– ville to win a 56-45 victory. Losing to B.C.C. 49-60, the team recouped the loss by winning four straight games easily over Churchill, Peary, Walter Johnson, and Gaithersburg. Richard Montgomery broke open a tight game with the Vikings in the fourth quarter and went on to win 60-47. In a see-saw battle against Wheaton, Whitman recovered to win 50-42. Although the tenacious Einstein press early shook down Whitman's ten point lead, the Vikings calmed down to win in the second half, 59-47. In the next game, the Viking team easily heat Surrattsville, an out-of-county team, 56-40. Whitman dropped to Poolesville 78-69, although JV forward Jeff Southmayd poured in thirty points, a season high. Avenging an earlier loss, the N team trounced B.C.C. 71-51. With Jeff Southmayd and Bob Wheeler combining for thirty-nine point and thirty-one rebounds again t Springbrook, the team rolled over the Blue Devil , 69-46. Gaither burg fell to the high scores of Jeff Southmayd and Steve Rales. With a last ser.ond ha ket, the Norsemen sank Walter Johnson 43-41 in the last win of the season. In Lhe final two games, the team lo t to Richard Monlgomery and Northwood, 66-54 and 49-47. Top rehounder and scorer, Jeff Southmayd earned special honor with a 14.5 average. A a whole, the team scored an an average of 56.4 a game over their opponents' average of 49.7.
