Although Whitman's Varsity suffered a rough wrestling season, the Vikings could boast of everal outstandina mat- o men. Varsity star Junior Mark Peterson, wrestling in the 180 pound weight c1ass, upheld an undefeated record in the regular season and placed third in the county tournament. Senior Roger Greenwald lost only one match during the regular season and placed second in the county tournament and third in the hi-county championships. Junior Sumner Rol1ings was awarded third place in the county tournament. Viking hopes for a successful wrestling season were stimu– lated by an overwhelming victory in the first bout against Kennedy, 23-11. Although Whitman suffered five consecutive defeats, the Viking varsity wrestlers had the spirit to whip Sherwood 31-19.
