South Lake High School 1951 Yearbook (St. Clair Shores, MI) - Full Access
JUNIOR YEAR 1949-50 Three long years have passed since this class first invaded South Lake. We welcomed some new mem– bers and our sponsors, Miss Fosler and Mrs. Enkel. This year we pro– gressed with bounds. We strove to be worthy examples to the under graduates. We were no more titled "Sophmores" but '• Juniors'', however, this did not restrain us from conquering such new subjects as Chemistry, American His– tory, Shop and others. Our ability rose to the heights during this year in sports. When the football season opened, our boys gained a monopoly on the first team. Basket– ball and baseball was also well repre– sented by the Junior class. We received our class rings. We collaborated with the Seniors in spon– soring the annual Prom. It was entitled "The Cinderella Prom" and a member of our class, Irene Maguest, was chosen as Queen. We feted the Seniors with a banquet in June at the Civic Center. The month ofJune came around once again. All our time was now con– sumed by renewing our subjects and preparing for the examinations , but this also ended, and we looked forward to our Senior year with confidence and enthusiasm. SENIOR YEAR 1950-51 A reminiscence of the Senior year indicated the important role played by the class of 19 51 in the affairs of the school. During this final and memora– ble year, it seemed that most of the activities of the school, at h 1 e tic or otherwise, were not complete without the participation of the Seniors. When school started, our spon– sors, Miss Begert and Mr. Lawrence called a class meeting. We elected the following as our officers: Don Diegel, President, Ted Thayer, Vice-President, Joe Stackpoole, Secretary, and Janet Rohrer, Treasurer. "Washington or Bust" became our cry. We proceed to sponsor money making projects. The Board of Educa– tion granted us the concession stand during the football games. Seniors now became hot dog, pop, and popcorn ven– dors selling their wares among the spectators. In October we enriched our treas– ury considerably as a res u 1 t of the Magazine Drive.
