Class History Freshman Year How well we remember that exciting day in September, 1948, when we made our debut at South Lake as freshmen. Under the guidance of Mr. Flogaus and Mrs. McDonnall, our new sponsors , we elected our class officers: President ..... . Don Dean Secretary ..... . ...... Pat Shepherd Vice-President .....Dianne Priester Treasurer ...... . Alberta Thornberry The days flew by and we soon found ourselves with vague plans and anticipation for the coming Sophomore Year. Sophomore Year Coming back from vacation, we found that our names had been changed from Freshies to Sophies. That wasn't the only change. Wewerenowallowedtohave dances. The most successful of these was, "Rag Mop Hop:' the first of its kind to be held at South Lake. The highlight of the dance was the choosing of a King and Queen from among all the tattered souls that attended. June was catching up to us again, and plans were in the making for a trip to Put– in-Bay. Soon our plans became a reality. On arriving at the island, we had our lunch. We then went on to view the historical sites. Arriving back in Detroit that evening we proceeded to Jefferson Beach which concluded our plans for the day, and also our activities for our Sophomore Year. Junior Year Our Junior Year brought about many things which will be well remembered. The Junior Play "Life of The Party," was among the first of these . Our main objective being to earn money, we sponsored several paper drives throughout the year. We soon had a visit from Mr. Burgess, the representative of the Balfour Ring Company. We ordered our rings and after weeks of waiting and saving they arrived. The next im– portant event of our Junior Year was the Junior-Senior Prom. Before the close of our Junior Year we honored the Seniors by giving them a farewell dinner at the Civic Center. Our farewell to the Seniors ended with a dance supplied with music by ''The Cavaliers.'' Senior Year The year 1951 found us with the ambitions to make the hopes of the past three years come true. Under the supervision of Mrs. Griffin and Miss Fosler, our spon– sors, we conducted the affairs of our Senior Year. One of the most important of these being the election of our class officers: President ........ Eddie Alexander Secretary ......... . ... Ruth Menke Vice-President .... . ... . Earl Liss Treasurer . ............ Nancy Moll We started the year with a Magazine Drive. This Drive was the basis for the new accounting system in which each person received a percentage of the total amount of the subscriptions he sold. Our Senior Play "Seventeenth Summer" brought out the talents of the Seniors It also helped to replenish our treasury. The days before the Junior-Senior Prom found everyone busily preparing for it . We are eagerly awaiting the Senior Trip to Washington, D. C. and the activities, both joyfuland solemn, which will mark the close of our eventful years at South Lake.
