for future citizens It was a thrilling sight shortly after seven o'clock June 14, 1962, to see more than 630 seniors, triumphant in their long coveted caps and gowns, swinging down State St. on the way to Hill Audi– torium for commencement exercises. At eight o'clock the auditorium was jammed with proud parents and rela– tives of the graduates, as, to the stirring music of the high school band, they con– tinued their march across the stage to receive their diplomas and honors from Mr. Jack Elzay, superintendent of schools, and Mr. Nicholas Schreiber, principal. This was the final moment of excitement just before the "long walk" across the stage. of our town. The final achievement - the receiving of the diploma. 135
