Main Street - center of tangible existence and proud believer in the sustaining labors of that existence. trade and commerce, the interpersonal buying and selling - the give and take which manifests the rhythm of the heart: Main Street - the very business of transaction and negotiation and speculation is an exciter of emotions to me - the merchant the trader the stockjobber the peddler all tradesfolk, all dealers in the life-blood of the city. you bargain and haggle and dicker for the deal, you must underbid and outbid and beat down; you have learned this and you survive and the city survives because of you. no matter whether a one-hack town or a city inter- woven with the growths of a complex nervous system. every-city and all– cities- the containers of the pulse beat of all cities - sustain the undulation of its throbbing - Main Street.
