Swimmers Have Split Season BOYS' SWIM TEAM Front Row: Gary Carucci, Ken Osborne, Gary Dawes, Keith Sekdel, Grantt Nitta, Melvyn Block, Bill Paxton. Second Row: Bruce Johnson, Robert Jarey, Ted Soper, Vic Mankowski, Jim Ravicchio. Douglas Dawes, Kevin McCauley The Cody swim team finished off an– other season boasting a three-win, three– loss record. For the third consecutive sea– son, Coach Don Fitch has given the team the guidance it has needed to bring it to its present status. His constant demand for excellence has resulted in a team, with a bulk of inexperienced swimmers, coming out of the season with an even record. The team, in its meet against Redford, broke two pool records. Jay Nowel bettered his own record in the 100 yd. Breast-stroke and Cody's swimmers in the 400 yd. free– style relay shattered the old pool record. Coach Fitch has reason to be joyous but there's still a bit of disappointment in his smile. "Our swimmers are excellent, but there just aren't enough of them." He voiced a plea for more tenth graders to come out for the team. "I have the time to build them up to superb swimmers if they start out in the tenth grade." (Captain). Third Row: Mr. Don Fitch (Coach), Steve Holland, Dennis Delezenne, Jerry Rozum, Clement Vianueva, Jay Nowel , Frank Bolak, Lyle Grant. The individual swimmers have improved greatly. Such team members as Jay Nowel, Melvin Block, Gary Dawes, Kevin Mc– Cauley, Clement Vianueva and Jerry Roz– um have improved the most. A member of Cody's relay team is shown here at a swim meet with Chadsey. He wastes no time leaving the block after his team mate touches. 108
