MR. GEORGE DONALDSON, Principal They Want the Comets To Shine Mr. George Donaldson became the third principal of Cody High School when he replaced Mr. Ralph Lee, who retired in June, 1967. Mr. Donaldson was born in Republic, a small town in the Lake Superior mining region. Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Donaldson left Republic and moved to Detroit. The new principal attended Detroit City College while he worked fifty hours a week for the General Motors Corporation. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Master's degree from Wayne State University. Later, Mr. Donaldson did post-graduate work at Michigan State University and the University of Detroit. He taught at Southwestern High School for five years, and at Western High School for fourteen years. He worked as a counselor at Cass Technical High School and at Mumford High School before he became assistant princi- pal at Schulze Junior High School. His next assignment was to Northern High School, where Mr. Donaldson spent three years as assistant principal and one year as principal. Then after working at the Schools Center Building, where he was involved in labor relations, be came to Cody High School as a principal. The members of Mr. Donaldson's family are also interested in the field of education, both in pursuing it for themselves and in helping others. Mr. Donaldson's wife is a teacher and his daughter is currently enrolled at Michi– gan State University as a pre-medical student. Wheen asked about his educational goals for Cody High School, Mr. Donaldson stated, "My goal is to in– crease the quality of education to the point where every student finds himself with a salable skill for immediate employment or for entry into any college or university of his choice, where he can carry out his vocational objec– tives not only with success, but also with distinction."
