MR. RAYMOND AGREN, Assistant Principal Mr. Raymond Agren, an assistant principal at Cody High School, has been an active member of the Cody High adminis– tration since January, 1952. Mr. Agren was born in Rochester, New Yo rk. After grad– uation from high school, he came to Detroit where he attended Wayne State University. There, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then obtained his Master's degree at the University of Michigan and did post-graduate work at Columbia University. Because of Mr. Agren's vast knowledge of math and sci– ence, he has greatly contributed to the field of education. He has taught math at Durfee Junior High School. He also taught physics at Denby and Southeastern High School. On the college level, he taught physics at Wayne State University and science education at Michigan State University, Lawrence Institute of Technology, and Columbia University. In spite of the time consumed at school, Mr. Agren still manages to pursue his hobbies at home. Besides being an ex– cellent wood craftsman, he enjoys gardening, traveling, listening to music and reading. He has accumulated an extensive classical record collection and has a large library in addition to subscrib– ing to some thirty magazines. Mr. Agren's goal while here at Cody is to assure that the instructiona l needs of each student are met. He attempts to accomplish thi goal by visiting department heads every day and working closely with individual teachers to solve problems. MISS GRACE McPHERSON, Assistant Principal Miss Grace McPherson, a Cody assistant principal since 1965, has been a tremendous asset to the Cody administration and student body. After leaving New Jersey, her birthplace, she came to Detroit and attended Wayne State University. Here she re– ceived her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. She also attended Northwestern University and the University of Michigan. Miss McPherson worked as a counselor and teacher at Mackenzie, teaching such subjects as world history, American literature and business education. Before she came to Cody she was assistant principal at Mumford High School. Miss McPherson feels that students work more enthusiastic– ally when it concerns subjects in which they take an active in– terest. She also believes the major problem of a large high school such as Cody is making each student feel like an individ– ual and not just one of 3,600 other teenagers. Her goal is to help every student succeed through education.
