Mrs. Mary Wadsten Department Head They'll Brighten the The business department is one of the big– gest departments at Cody. It offers the largest variety of classes such as shorthand, typing, bookkeeping, business law and business arith– metic. The 23 business teachers all do their best to help their students develop their busi– ness skiiJs for better use in the world outside of school. Cody's business department offers two differ– ent types of programs. The distributive educa– tion program offers classes in marketing, sales– manship, merchandising and sales promotion. If a student wishes, the distributive education co-ordinators will place him on a job such as selling, putting up window displays, or mark– ing stock. These students attend school in the morning and go to work in the afternoon. For those students whose interests tend to lean toward office work, the second program, the cooperative education program was set up. This program works the same way as the for– mer, only the jobs are positions such as re– ceptionists, secretaries and filing clerks. Both of these programs function as clubs also and they plan a variety of social activities for the year. With the help of the business faculty Cody puts out some of the best-trained employees in the working world today.
