Language Speaks for Itself Max Novitz Department Head Mrs. Florence Hieronymus Here at Cody, students have the op– portunity of learning a foreign language. They may select from French, Latin, German and Spanish which are offered up to four years. This permits concerned students to pursue their study of a certain language in college after graduation. In addition to learning to speak a foreign language, the students study the culture and customs of the country. Maps are provided in the classrooms so that geography is part of the study. Spanish classes not only learn to speak a 26 Most of the language classes take part in different assignments to gain experi– ence in a language. Students act out plays in a foreign tongue, read books in another language, and learn other na– tions' songs. In the language laboratory, students, through the aid of earphones, listen and repeat what the speaker says. This gives a better knowledge of how words are pro– nounced. If earphones are not used, rec– ords are provided, which help the stu– dents learn where his accent and his rolled rr's belong. foreign language, but they also learn to write it.
