Frank Cody High School 1968 Yearbook (Detroit, MI) - Full Access
They'll Be Ready for the Road Mr. McHenry tells onlooking sflldents how tire piston works. In driver's training, knowing the parts of the motor is l'ery important. Driver's education is not just a course in driving but a course in good citizenship through good driving. All those learning experiences provided by the school are for the purpose of helping students to learn to use the motor ve– hicles safely and efficiently. During the course of driver's education half of the time is spent in a classroom learning about the car, the laws and the roads. The other half is spent using, on the range, what one has already learned in the classroom. While driving along Cody's range, the stu– dents, through experience, learn the funda– mentals of controlling the car. Among these exercises are: the apron, the figures eight and Y, a hill, parallel parking and traffic lights. These exercises give the student capability in handling the car. In the near future students with driving ex– perience will be taken on the city streets. This is due to a new police ordinance which re– quires each student to have the opportunity of driving on the road. The hope is that tomor– row's young driver will be even better equipped to meet traffic problems. Parallel parking is demonstrated by Cindy Schfaff, while some of tire s/1/dents watch, noting all the important points. Mr. Cosgro explains tire details of the instrument panel to tire students before they leam to drive. 37
