Frank Cody High School 1968 Yearbook (Detroit, MI) - Full Access

Mr. Joseph Poniatowski, Cody's music director, led our Concert Band in the playing of "Three Songs of Christmas," by Clare Grundman, "Train Ride" from "Winter Holiday," by Prohofieff; and "Prelude and Caprice," by Ralph Herman. Wishing You the Merriest ... The "Sound of Christmas" could truly be heard by the audience, as they listened to the Mixed Ensemble sing 72 the song of that name. Mrs. Lucile Miller directed and Mrs. Jeannette Ramsey accompanied. With the atmosphere of Christmas near– ing, the annual Christmas concert was pre– sented by the Fine Arts Department on December 8. The first half provided the audience with music of a religious and also festive air. It was brought forth by the perform– ances of the Choir, Orchestra, Mixed En– semble, Girls' Glee Club and the Concert Band. Frank Paja played a "Medley of Christ– mas Melodies" on his accordion. The second half began with the Choir singing, "The Shepherd's Story". Solos were then sung by Mary Jane Boron, Donna Cassells, Frank Paja, David VanNest, Robert VanNest and Barbara Clark. After this the Girls' Ensemble sang three more Christmas favorites followed by the Finale singing, "The Messiah." Highlights of the program included "Jingle Bells" by the Mixed Ensemble and the "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" by the Concert Band .
