Setts Guba 90 The '71-'72 cagers under the guidance of lirst year coach Orin Schuler had a very successful ea on . Regular season play ended with a 14-6 record which included 2 wins over defending state champion Duluth Central and losses to Duluth East, Herman– town, Proctor, Superior Senior, and one to Brainerd in the finals of the Brainerd Invitational. This record gave the 'Jacks 2nd place in the Big Ten and No. 1 eeding in the District 26 Class A Tournament . Cloquet beat Cromwell and Carlton in the District quarter and semi-finals respectively and were fa– vored to take the District Crown . Proctor, however had different ideas as they defeated the Lumber– jacks by a score of 46-43 . All through the season the 'Jacks were a never– say-die team. With revenge in their eye for an early season lo s, Cloquet took No. 1 ranked Duluth East into overtime. The final core was 71 to 69 in favor of East, but we came clo er than any other atean team to beating the 'Hound . Schuler's Supreme again showed their great team work in the Di trict finals. The 'Jack were trailing by II going into the 4th quarter, when led by Setterquist, Smith, and Johnson, they erupted for 14 points to Proctor 3 tying the game . Unfortunately the breaks weren't with us and the Rail won it from the free-throw line with 19 seconds left on the clock. The eight senior player contributed much to the team in leadership and spirit. We had two of the be t guard in the area in Keith "Guba ' John on (who wa al o our leading scorer) and Steve "Stink" Smith both of whom were named to the District All-Tournament team . Terry Setterquist and Jimmy Johanson proved to be rough and tough on the boards, rebounding well for the 'Jacks. AI o con– tributing much to the team were Frank Yetka, our long shooter, and Dave Huebner, Ross el on , and Steve "Crawley" Korby who came through when they were needed. Crawley added much to the team and fan in spirit and excitment. During the Morgan Park game Crawley came off the bench to core 12 point . After this game The Crawley Fan Club was formed and many times during the game fans would begin yelling for the coach to put him in. The Class of '72 also takes with it the team man– agers Marc "Squirlly" Anderson and Mark "Duck" Fairbairn. These two guy did a lot of behind the cene work keeping core and helping keep the team spirit up. Both Squirrly and Duck deserve much prai e for a job well done.
