Lawson High School 1963 Yearbook (Lawson, MO) - Full Access

6 Channel R~Iv~~~LHS At the beginning of fall in 1959, I walked over to the television set, turned it on, and there before my eyes was a cast of thirty-one freshmen from Lawson High School. From the front row to the back row I saw W.J. Adams, Ellen Anderson, John Assel, Eddie Bedore, Royce Berry, Darlene Boxx, Donald Burnett, Oarold Bush, Peggy Clevenger, Elizabeth Downing, 1ary Groshong, Wanda Gulley, Larry IIeavelow, Jane Hill, Ernie Hurt, James McGaugh, Tommy McPherson, Donna Medley, Louie Mellon, Charles Morris, Shirley Noland, GeneNolker, Linda olker, Joyce 0' Dell, Edith Parker, Jimmy R_ogers, Stella Rogers, Harold Southwick, Jim Tanner, Doyle Wyatt, and Edd Weissenbach. Sponsor of the show was Mrs. Cleo Smith. During the first show I saw them elect their class officers: Pres., Eddie Bedore; Vice-Pres., Jane Hill; Sect, Linda Nolker; Treas., Louie 1ellon. The next several programs were live shows direct from the football field. Among the fresh– men players identified were Eddie Bedore, Harold Southwick, Jim Tanner, Oarold Bush, Louie 1ellon, and Edd Weissenbach. Linda Nolker, Homecoming Queen candi– date was a special feature on the October 30 show, along with the "We 'll Smoke Polo Out" float. Music throughout the season was furnished by the LHS Band of which Gene Nolker, Doyle Wyatt, and Jim Tanner were freshmen members. Another series of television shows brought us exciting basketball games from the school gymnasium. Those players from the freshman cast were EJdie Bedore, Louis Mellon, Edd Weissenbach, Royce Berry, W.J. Adams, Harold Southwick, Gene Nolker, Ernie Hurt, and John Assel. Cheerleaders, Linda _:olker, Elizabeth Downing, Jane Hill and Mary Groshong, filled in with commer...·ials and station-identification. Other spring programs covered baseball, music -...ontests, and end-of-school activities. By this time though, there had been some changes made in the cast. Pat Beamond had joined, and Joyce O'Dell, Donna 1edley, and Shirley Noland had resigned. When the new television season opened in 1960, I saw most of the old cast return. However, suddenly I missed John Assel and Ellen Anderson. Again the first program was the election of class officers. Royce Berry was elected as Pres.; Ernie Hurt as Vice-Pres.; Elizabeth Downing as Sec.; and Linda olker as Treas. Sponsor of the show was Mr. Dan Hurt. This year sophomore players Eddie Bedore, Oarold Bush, Louie Mellon, Harold Southwick, and Edd Weissenbach were on the screen during football season. Basketball season brought Edd Weissenbach, W.J. Adams, and Harold Southwick to the screen. Sophomore announcers, Linda olker, Elizabeth Downing, Stella Rogers and Jane Hill, dressed in red and white kept the programs jumping. Special features were Pat Beamond as Homecoming Queen candidate, the "Story of Mercy" Homecoming float, and Stella Rogers on the Soph– omore Pilgrimage to Jefferson City. Jim Tanner played with the UlS Band. During this season we saw Peggy Clevenger, Pat Beamond and Tommy McPherson leave our station, but we welcomed Sheryl Black and Faye Horn to our cast. Again it was time for a vacation on one of the greatest networks in the country.
