( MODEL U.N. ORGANIZES Model United Nations is an organization at Del Norte designed to represent particular countries of the U.N. General Assembly and to participate in the Model United Nations competition in Santa Fe every November. This is the second year Del Norte has participated. Last year, our two teams represented Zimbabwe and Syria. The Zimbabwe team, consisting of Sharif Sokkary, Wade Jackson, Johnny Meyer, Gabe Nossier, Joyce Kossman and Erica Simcina won "Best Delegation". This year, Del Norte had three teams, representing China, Venezuela, and Israel. The sponsors were Mrs. Maish, Mr. Couch, and Mrs. Goldenberg. The teams, or "delegations", organize in the spring of each year. Participating schools draw for countries in April, and study the country and its foreign policy until September when the schools Model U.N. members composing their countries' position papers. Model UN guys. convene in a "Mini Moe" to decide the agenda. Delegations narrow their study to three issues and compose their countries' position papers and res· olutions. In November, delegations move into the Senate chambers Santa Fe and begin to forge alliances with countries represented by other schools. The teams spend the three days in furious activity in General Assembly and Caucus in an effort to achieve the best possible result for the country they represent. Judges determine two "Best Del– egates" and three "Best Delegations." Del Norte teams included: Pedro Bonano, Ri– chard Brooks, Debbie Conroy, Claire Gogal, Katy Hagen, Wade Jackson, Andy Kalin, Chris Knight, Joyce Kossman, Lindsay Moffatt, Johnny Meyer, Gabe Nosseir, Tanya Patterson, Heather Scott, Erica Simcina, and Sharif Sokkary.
