Ladies' Fastpitch Softball Coach John Gonzales gives the camera a huge smile. Thank You. Senior Lisa Kelly and (dad) Coach Kelly joke around. As the Lady Knight softball team tarted their 1993-94 sea on one ques– tion stood alone in their heads: Would they flourish past their last year's fourth place in state to capture a tate cham– pion title? The lady Knights had players that po se s above average talents to do it. Ace-pitcher, ophomore Kabrina Bates is a olid player who is anxious to prove herself against older, more-publicized pitchers in the state. All- tate center– fielder, Li a Kelly combine marts, ag– gre ion and excellent defense# to back Del Norte's team. Other to watch in– cluded freshman Jackie Congleton (speed), enior Kari Randel (offen e), and junior Stacia Romero (catcher). Combined with the re t of the team they will prove to be key piece of a puz– zle that spells TATE CHAMPIONS. Senior Mistie Beatty tries to slide in an assembly. She failed. Sophomore Kabrina Bates concentrates on warming up. About the only flaw on thi team was nerve . If this Knight oftball team could figure out how to get rid of the "jitters" before games, they would go on to accom– plish their goal. Maybe coache John Gon– zales and Lewis Kelly had solutions in mind. John Gonzale has coached at Del Norte for even year . He has been a huge turn– around in the quality of oftball that ha been played at Del Norte. Newcomer Lewis Kelly may be quiet, but his quick mind and knowledge will surely help the Knight soft– ball program. o if Del Norte's oftball puzzle piece I players fell into place, they had a good chance to be trong contender in tate. Oh! One more thing-the knights were state champions in 1984 (+5), 1989 (+5),.........see a pattern?
