Chenango Forks High School 1971 Yearbook (Chenango Bridge, NY) - Full Access
Education is the fulfillment of man's desire to learn. Man wishes to learn simply for the satisfaction and the wishes to learn informa– tion to be applied in his life. American high school educational generally satisfies the first condition. This is usually done by making certain courses mandato– ry. Educators feel that if a person wishes to learn for further appli– cation in his life, he should go to post-high school centers such as trade schools or colleges. I feel that C. F. helps stop this step of making college education necessary by offering various half-year elective courses. Not everyone can or wants to go to college. Pub– lic high school education is cheaper than college education, and since there are many different electives, it makes school seem a lit– tle more worth the effort. The teacher-student relationship should be between a guiding human being and a learning human being, rather than that of a strictly authoritarian discipline. This is generally done by informal discussion sessions. These "rap" sessions seem to have become more frequent in more teachers' classes, which shows that C. F. is capable of change. C. F_ is all right except for the general student apathy con– cerning problems that the students have the right and power to change. These include an apathetic Student Council, which needs changing from a nominal puppet organization to a true voice of the students. Also, a majority of students believe that athletics are all that life is. Athletics should be a part of school life, but not the ruling factor; for those who are not Varsity Club men are ostra– cized by school administrators, parochial faculty members, and people of the community. Life is more than fun and games. My basic philosophies of life are as follows: 1. Don't trust fanat– ics; 2. Don't trust those who use physical force; 3. Do anything you want to do, so long as you don't hurt anyone; 4. Be open– minded and accept change.
