Chenango Forks High School 1971 Yearbook (Chenango Bridge, NY) - Full Access

A philosophy of high school athletics to me is two– fold; first, it should be fun; and secondly, athletes should try in all conceivable ways to win. Winning without playing the game by the standards established will, I feel, be shallow and worthless. In the same man– ner, playing the game without enjoying it is also sense– less. Anything worthwhile in athletics usually comes only with hard work. Athletes must learn to accept this fact and be prepared to work hard and make the sacrifices that the non-participating student will not have to make. An athlete must face adversity, measure up to it, and defeat it, or he will suffer the disappointment of losing or of being ashamed of his own perform.1nce! Losing is something we all must face in different re– spects. My own philosophy of losing is this: there is no shame in losing to a better team or if you have given 100% of your individual ability. I would hope that student participants of football and all athletics at Chenango Forks would leave with an appreciation and love of the game, a willingness to make the necessary sacrifices involved, and a feeling of oneness with past and future Blue Devil football players and athletes. athletics •
