Mikalos, D. Doddo7-ia, J. Murphy The Chenango Valley Senior High Debate Club, under the sponsorship of Miss Angelopoulas, has been active in high school debates this past year. They have traveled to area high schools and have been the host to other high school debate clubs. The debate topic for this school year has been the New York State topic: "Resolved- That the United Nations should be significantly strengthened." The club has also been debating on topics pertaining to the interests of kigh school students. The purpose of Debate Club is to give its members an opportunity to learn to think and speak effectively in front of an audience. It also offers a chance to argue the merits of current problems efficiently. The officers for 1960-1961 are President, Jack Cook; Vice-President, Barbara Lester; Secretary, Sandra Cushman; and Treasurer, Bill Pomeroy. Merit Badge Club ROW ONE: Tom Scott ROW TWO: Left to Right, H. Derr, R. Randall, R. Rhodes, C. Race, J. Clark, R. Tremaine, M. Sotterthwoite The Merit Badge Club is under the direction of Mrs. Lora lawrence. The boys work to earn badges in: Citizenship in the Community; World Brotherhood; Citizenship in the Nation. Raymond Tvvirling Club The newly organized club is under the instructions of Mr. John Smetzler . Baton and flag baton are taught to girls in the club . The twirling club performs for concerts, parades and twirling compe– tition. The officers are President Joyce Gervais; Secretary, Jo Ann Smith.
