The Norwich High School Varsity Swimming Team completed their third and most successful season in 62-6 3, winning 12 while losing 6 dual meets. The Tornado Tankmen capped a fine winning season by capturing the Cen– tral New York Interscholastic Swimming Conference "B" Division Champion– ship, compiling a nifty 8 and 1 record against "B" Division teams. In the last meet the Tornado literallydrown the Lowvillians 65 to 29, to earn the tie for the championship. This smashing victory forced a swim-off between these same two teams. Again the Purple and White Frogmen were equal to the task and emerged with a 48 to 47 win and the "B" championship. The Norwich Mermen were capably led this year by Captain Robert Jewett, three year veteran, backstroke ace, and backbone of the 62-63 team. Eric Miller, the only other senior swimmer on the squad, impressed many in the difficult 100 yard butterfly event. The Champion NHS Mermen and their enthusiastic coach, Mr. Echentile are hopeful that the team's championship status will attract more boys for next year's team giving the Purple more depth and strength to meet the larger teams in the conference.
