The Nonvich High School matmen finished the season with four wins and four losses . Two ofthe losses were by only one point. The grapplers defeated Oneonta, Mohawk, Ilion, and Little Falls, while bowing to Rome, Sherburne, Herkimer, and Frankfort. They placed fourth in the Sidney Tournament with Lawerence Byam and John Root capturing the 133 lb. and 138 lb. crowns respectively. The Purple and White squad ended up in a three way tie with Herkimer and Oneonta for second place in the Iroquois League Tournament. There were eight returning lettermen who saw action in the 62-63 season. Among these were Co-captains Anthony Funaro and Lawerence Byam, David Franklin, John Young, Daniel De Rensis, Maxwell Blenis, William Mossman, and Richard Root. Receiving letters for the first time this year were Richard Annese, Warren Taylor, Alan Thorpe, John Root, James Rice, and James Blenis. Except for Warren Taylor, all the first year lettermen should be returning for next season. This, plus the very good per– formance of the Junior Varsity squad, indicates that Mr. Elia will have a considerably strong squad to choose from for the future ~arsity team. 105
