Yorktown High School 1962 Yearbook (Yorktown, NY) - Full Access

AFS Karen Lesh was our exchange student from York– town last summer. She spent nine weeks with a Tur– kish family in Istanbul. As representative of the United States, Karen helped to spread the feeling that Americans can understand and get along with other people of the world, no matter what the differences of religion, race or customs. Ulla Jarvinen, as of July 1962, will have spent one whole year in the United States. She will climax this visit by taking a bus trip, planned by the AFS, throughout the eastern section of the states. Ulla will then return to her native Finland with an understand– ing of Americans which, she says, includes their friendliness and informality. Ulla has done a great deal to increase our knowledge of her country. 61
