On one occasion we had the opportunity to make an ex– cur. ion . 'era! mile out. id of Paris to Ver aille, the b autiful home of Loui XIV. and the burial ground of world \var . We pent the whol day there walking through the ca tle , art gallerie , mu cum , and garden.. H rrm '56 BEL IUM D E L lTD n the 24th of August we boarded our bu. e and had our last look at th ity ni" r itaire. \1\'c had njo ·ed our ta} in Pari. but w re glad to get back on the road again. . we trav led toward our de tination ieuport, B lgium we noticed that the land was becoming much flatter. Thi 1 b au e B 1- gium i the econd flattest country in Europ . We arrived in icuport ab ut 5:00 P. M. ju t about the time our friend. back hom wer itting down to their noon m al. W tayed in the Y.~I. .A. camp there which was about 200 yards from the ~cashore. Many of us rented bicycles and rod around the Bclo-ium count•)' ide for th next few day . ur Belgian camp leaders w re ex– cell nt hosts and made our three– day tay at the camp mo. t njoyablt>. The next city in our thirty-day tour of Europ wa Brus 1 . It was quit a change from th mall town of Ni uport a it i the large t city in Belgium. \! e vi ited many famous churche and witne cd a beer fe ti– \al in th vet)' famou market quare. The highlight of our stay in Bru el how ver, wa the excur ion to \• aterloo ' h re apol on m t hi d feat at the hand of th Duk of \ ellington. t the battle site there' is a great mound of earth om 135 f ct high which wa built by the wi\'c and weethearts of tho e who had di d during the apol onic \\'ar . The p ople of Belgium were o kind and friendly to u that we really hated to leave the quaint and interesting ountry. A hort time lat r, however we found out that the p ople of England wer ju t a friendly toward u American . It wa fa cinating to b in Great ilritain, th country about whiclt w had read ~o many book . \ "i ited man · hi torical place uch a Bu kingham Palace the Tower of London, Big Ben, the hou e of Parliament, St. Paul' athedral, \ e tminister Abbey, Picadilly Cir– cus, o. 1 0 Down in.~ tre t and many others.
