.. , 68 Four hours a day, five days a week, for two months - Totaling over 180 hours of practicing - The jokes be– come sour, the nerves become raw, brains tired, memories foggy - Bodies sore and aching - Throats rough and dry - Day after day - Repeating the same lines over and over and over and over ... and over - Lying in the semi-dark auditorium on the rough red carpet – Waiting for your cues - Missing them more than once– Dancers meeting cast - Orchestra meeting sound crew - Taking 50 or 60 people, throwing them together for eight weeks in red alert conditions - You come out either all mentally unstable or all everlasting friends – Comparable to a miniature " Peyton Place" - Sitting around after practice listening to a critique - Realizing every day brings the production closer, closer, until ... DRESS REHEARSAL - Make-up, lights, set - Opening nights after practices painting the scenery -- Falling off ladders - Slopping goopy paint all over the stage – Listen ing to "Tommy, " "Jesus Christ Superstar, " and the Beatles.
