Have you wondered who this Bulleh Bablitch or "Boo" girl is? Well, here I am! I'm the "Boo-girl". I'm from Liberia, West Africa, from a county Nimba.l was born in a village called Sequliepea. Near Sequiepea my town called Beagonepa (named after my great grandfater ). Beagonepa has a population of about 150 p·eople, all of them live in houses that are huts, with thatched roofs. Most people have never seen a white person. They are very poor and not well educated, they have never heard of anyplace out of Sequiepea or be– yond Liberia. BUT they have heard of America. There are eight children in my family. from the oldest to the youngest: Kou, Me. Thomas (Vola ), Zoe– quoi (Tolealia), lassana and Mamadee, Grandma (Gal– leh) and Auntie (Litee), and my mother's name is Payla Massaquoi, she sells soaps in order to make a living. she's quite poor and trying to raise six children, plus aunts, uncles, and cousins. Liberia is a country in West Africa that has ·nine counties and sixteen languages. I can speak three lan– guages: Mono (my tribe ), Glo, and Cron. liberia was discovered by the old American slaves and it was the first country in Africa to get it's independance in 1847. It had been in the hands of free slaves for lB years until 1980. and the Liberian people took over, the government has been in the hands of cron leader Samuel K. Doe, a former segeant who became the leader by assasinating our previous president (the free slave). Govermental leaders are not well educated for example Dr. Doe after taking power, went to China and got his Doctors de– gree in one month. Since 1980 the country has not been improving economically or in any other way. There is fighting and killing going in between the tribes. Dr. Doe's people (cron) have more power over the other tribes, they have all the best jobs in the country. The schooling in liberia is much like here except you don't have to go to school and you can start and stop anytime you want. Most people want to go to school, but can't afford it, school costs $.200.00 a year or more and that's a lot of money for Liberian people. We go to school from 8:00a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and we have thirty minutes for recess. We have a dress code for Juniors and Seniors: Juniors have to wear long sleeved shirts. and the Seniors have to wear long sleeved shirts and ties. no one is allowed to wear jewelry. makeup and everyone has to wear black shoes with white socks. The students that go to school are very smart and try very hard, it 's easy to fail, at the school I went to a passing mark was 70% and the teachers make it very hard to pass. The school I went to had .250 students for grades seventh through twelfth. in my class there were 36 students. We have the same subjects as here. but we don't have the elective subjects as you do here. In liberia we have two kinds of food, one is rice with some kind of sauce, called soup. there are many differ– ent kinds of soup, the second kind of food is not spella– ble so I will call it the modern name G.B. We also have many different kinds of fruits like: oranges. grapefruit, mangos, avocados, tangerines and many more. That's about it for me and my beloved country. Oh, one more thing. if you are looking for a country to go to work or visit, inspite of the economic condition, and if you are like me who likes to help others. I encourage you to go to liberia, you will love the people, the beauty of the country, and most of all. just knowing you are Part of Sequliepea Boo and Mom lassana Mamadee helping people that need it will make you feel great. I really like Oregon High School, and the people I've met in this community are wonderful. I will stay here and graduate and hopefully go to college in America. I LOVE YOU All with Jove, from liberia Bulleh (Boo) Bablitch
