These three boys shared the halfback duties this season as Don Slate and Jim Terry started most of the games and Louis Gargarella made a quite capable substitute when forced to step in for the injured Don Slate. STARTING BACKFIELD : Don Slate, Dick Smith, Ron Caldwell, Jim Terry. Dick Smith and understudy Rick Heim shored quarterback duties. Hard-nosed and hard-running fullback Ron Coldwell fought off injuries and opposing linemen to gain many touch– downs. Smith handing ott to Coldwell counted for many touchdowns. oc- Quarterback Dick Smith steered this year's team to a winning season.
