offers varied courses

Home economics courses emphasized the theo–

retical principles of cooking, sewing, and care of the

family rather than the practical application of skills.

In addition to the three year homemaking se–

quence for a home economics major, the depa1tment

offered elective courses in child development, family

and community health, home furnishing, money man–

agement, nutrition, textiles, and clothing and family

values for democratic living.

Students prepared full course dinners , studied

interior decorating, and learned the fundamentals of

family economy, and child psychology in preparation

for future responsibilities.
