Departing

Time moves on .. . classes come and go ... The halls of Yonkers

High are filled with a fresh batch of faces each year. Others leave,

never to return. And yet some things remain true. There are forces

which weather time, which serve as a common bond from year to

year, from class to class. Mr. Doyle was such a force. His retirement

this June marks the end of an era. It was Mr. Doyle who originated the

idea of a Yearbook for Yonkers High. The school had 900. students

then. It has 1500 now. And yet what senior has not come up against

the intricacies of Doylean diction, or heard mention of the terrible

"audible pause"? .... . . Maybe someday, a bright-eyed greenpea

will hear for the first time -

"Good morning. Will everyone please rise and remain

standing until after the playing of our national anthem ..."

- and he will ask whose voice that is. We will know. Won't we?
